If you don't have time to take on a full on vacation but still want to take a short trip to get away from everything to get refreshed. However; you may be on a budget and though you are in need of some time away you may think you can't afford it. But there is good news, not everywhere you go is going to be too expensive. Below are a few ideas that might help you take that weekend getaway without making it hard on your wallet.
One of the least expensive things you can do is go camping. Just pack up your camping gear and get yourself a few items to eat and take off to the closest National or State campground in your state. As long as it's not too far away, one night in one of these campgrounds will not only be cheap but a great way to escape the drudgery of daily life and a great way to relax and commune with nature.
Make sure that whatever you do it's as local as it possibly can be. The less travel time you need to get to your destination the more time you will have and the less money you will have to spend. Even if you have lived in the area for a while, there may be things that you have never visited like buildings with historical value, museums, parks and a variety of other things. Make sure to check with your own Chamber of Commerce to find out what you've been missing in your own city.
Take a drive. Make sure that you take a change of clothes and a few personal items because the plan here should be to drive as far as you want and then find a place you find interesting to visit and check into a motel for the night. Don't just drive down the typical highway, take a detour by taking a historical route or scenic byway where you might discover a gem by the side of the road that you didn't know existed. You might want to include packing a meal for yourself so that wherever you end up you won't even have to spend money on going out for dinner.
Another thing you can do is to sign up for one of those boring timeshare meetings where they offer you a free weekend for you having to sit through one of their 3 hour or more presentations. Usually these come with absolutely no obligations to buy anything and you'll be getting a free weekend for being bored to tears.
With just a little research you might be surprised what you can come up with that will not cost you a ton of money that you can do and enjoy. You just need to be willing to take the time to find something or come up with an idea and don't be afraid to act on it.
